From The President

Hello my name is Gus Papadakos and I am the president of Move Canada Van Lines formally know as Mississauga movers.  I am  the hands on expert, the packing master and the one who has driven over one million miles from one end of Canada to the other.  My father founded this company in 1963, I had the pleasure of taking over when my father passed on and making it what it is today.  The story that I would like to share with all of you is one that shows dedication and perseverance.  Many people have asked me what could a mover have to possibly have to write about, what interesting details could there be, so I would like to take a moment of your time to share with you the Move Canada Van Lines story.

I was sixteen years old and very interested in becoming a professional mover, one who would be able to move families and business's alike across Canada.  My dream was to provide stress free, organized and diligent moves.  My father started the moving business and I joined him in 1979 and worked by his side day and night learning everything I could, from the master he was.  We started with one truck, a 1979 International straight truck with a wooden box at that time proper double slotted logistic strapping did not exist nor did the fourteen foot ramps.  All of the shipments had to be manually lifted into the truck and  strapping had to be completed with regular tie bar.  The art of strapping perfectly and packing the truck to ensure the safety of the shipment and to maximize space was imperative until more modern trucks could be obtained.

Our first thirty four foot van was purchased in 1987.  We continued to move locally with some long distance, the drive through the mountain was daunting, the drives were long and tiring. we had many great workers along the way that provided support across the Canadian highways.  Along the way we encountered moose, black bears, mountain goats, caribou to name a few.  Some of the animal encounters were frightening and could have cost our lives.  The truck stops also provided some interesting creatures, they were called "lot lizards".

Our first full shipment out west was in 1990, I was 25 years old and never looked  back,  to the west we went.  The challenge and the satisfaction of the drive was exhilarating and called out for more.  My father still played a big roll with the support and the internal infrastructure he provided.  He would check the weather reports every day along my 2727 mile drive.  The updates would come to me by telephone and so would the undying courage he provided me behind the scenes.  He would ensure all of the deliveries were notified promptly to avoid any delays on the road.  In time we developed efficient and streamlined ways to be the most professional mover.

We decided to create a website to showcase some of the trips and share some of the letters of accommodations received from our wonderful clients.   In 1998 my father passed away and at that time I vowed to keep the legacy alive.  We stayed strong and continued the hard but very satisfying work.

In conclusion, we enjoy our work and respect our clients.  All shipments that enter our trucks are personally taken care of by myself and qualified energetic staff.
